India, the land of the World's oldest civilization, has been one of the major attractions for foreign travelers from time immemorial. Before Vasco Da Gama discovered a sea route to India on May 20 th 1498 , Europeans were conducting trade with India through middlemen. Rulers of Europe were trying hard to find a sea route to India as they were attracted by the wealth and natural resources which were in abundance in the country. After the discovery of the sea route, Europeans were vying to take control over the country. Great Britain was successful in colonizing most of the states of India .
Colonization by Britain resulted in spread of western education in India . After Independence , following the British system, India adopted Parliamentary form of Government and continued the British tradition of common law court system.
In the present era, marked by widespread use of internet and modern communication and transport systems, the distance between two points of the globe has been dramatically reduced. Due to this technological explosion, persons residing in two parts of the globe can interact with each other easily. Before this technological explosion, only industrial establishments were able to take advantage of cheap and qualified labor force available in other parts of the globe. The widespread use of internet has made it possible for organizations engaged in service sector to hire and outsource the work to countries where qualified labor force is available at internationally competitive rate.
Opening up of the Indian market to private players, as part of the economic liberalization policy adopted by Government of India in 1991, resulted in huge flow of foreign direct investment into India from various countries, especially from Europe and America . Government of India gave emphasis to export oriented industries to correct the huge imbalance in its balance of trade. This policy of Government of India, alongwith the availability of huge English speaking, technically skilled labor force and other resources at internationally competitive rate, made India the most fertile land for Business Process Outsourcing.
